No Lone Wolf

White-power has posed a threat to democracy for decades. Who is to blame? The group or the individual?

Before Timothy McVeigh plotted to blow up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, he traveled to Waco, Texas, in April 1993, where he witnessed the 51-day standoff between law enforcement and the Branch Davidian Religious Sect. An FBI-led raid in Waco ended in 76 people dying in a conflagration, and McVeigh cited vengeance against the government as part of his and his co-conspirators’ motivation in the Oklahoma City bombing exactly two years later. He’s pictured here during the siege in Waco, where he handed out gun-rights flyers and bumper stickers with slogans like When guns are outlawed, I will become an outlaw.
